2024 Toyota Stout – release date, trims and more

The automobile industry is driven by high competition. You won’t stay in the market for long if you don’t try to outperform your competitors. In recent months, Ford has made big strides in the pickup space with its latest version of the Ford Maverick. Now, everyone is waiting for Toyota to provide an answer to the upcoming threat. We and everyone around us believe that the answer from the Japanese manufacturer will be Toyota Stout.

The compact pickup truck market is a very competitive one and it’s hard to believe Toyota wouldn’t respond to anything Ford has. The only answer we need to know is how long we have to wait for a straight answer. So, what do we know about the mysterious Toyota Stout so far?

NB: The Toyota Stout brand existed in the United States in the early 1960s, but in the meantime, it had been discontinued and replaced by the modern Tacoma, Hilux, and Tundra models. The Ford Maverick is proof that the pickup truck market is not saturated and it would be strange if Toyota didn’t make a move. Unfortunately, as of the moment of writing this article, Toyota has not made any public statements.

What do we know so far?

What we do know is that Toyota is completely secretive at the moment. But that won’t stop us or other car magazines from speculating. Sources from topspeed.com claim that since the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz have received a warm reception and offer affordable solutions in the pickup space, Toyota is expected to make a move. One could argue that the stage is set for a massive comeback and that the old Stout brand could be on the table.

In the past, Toyota was seen as one of the leaders in the pickup truck segment, and it’s hard to imagine that it would let itself fall now. That’s why rumors about a new Toyota Stunt are starting to rise. Thanks to the innovative touch that the Japanese manufacturer always has with its new models, remaking the Stout pickup truck really makes sense. But what would the ancient legend look like these days?

Two years of rumors

The story of Toyota Stout is not new. It dates back to 2022 when the rumors we have today were launched. It all started with Autoweb magazine reporting that Toyota had filed a claim to trademark the Stout name again. The moment it happened, we were listening to stories of its reappearance.

To add fuel to the fire, Toyota’s senior vice president of automotive operations in charge of North America said that Toyota is in the play to launch something in the smaller pickup segment. This story was confirmed during his interview with autonews.com.

Mr. Jack Hollis mentioned that the pickup truck market lacks what Toyota has to offer, and it is easy to imagine that he is considering Stout.

Today, when the market is ready to reset, the Toyota Stout could do the job considering it is the car that paved the way for the Hilux and other minivans launched by Toyota thereafter.

Appearance – Old school or modern design?

At the moment we’re dealing with mere speculation and the only way to know what the new Toyota Stout will look like is to use our imagination. No need to overdo it, and with a little luck, we had someone do the hard work for us.

According to Dimas Ramadan, a virtual car artist, the new Stout will take on a modern and futuristic design. In the video below you can see the idea he tried to present to the public. As far as the Aichi-based company is concerned, no plans have been leaked on what the new truck could look like.

Rendered with CGI, the Stout looks like a vehicle that could be placed somewhere between a Santa Cruz and a Maverick. When you take a statement from Toyota North America’s senior vice president of product and battery-powered vehicles that the company plans to include a new model below the Tacoma in the company’s lineup, you get a bigger picture that Stout could be on the way.

The force behind the new stout?

It is too early to talk about possible engines, as the amount of information regarding this model is scarce. But what we do know is the market and the direction in which it is turning.

Considering that today we have many SUVs and trucks powered by hybrid engines, it should come as no surprise that the new Stout greets us as a hybrid-only vehicle.

As for other powertrains, among those that could be in the mix, we can’t help but think of the 265-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder that comes from the Highlander but has been toned down a bit.

Potential pricing and release date

Toyota Stout

It’s too early to talk about a specific release date, but there is already various information circulating about it. According to Bob Carter, Toyota’s former executive vice president of sales, the company held a meeting in June to discuss the path it would take regarding the new push in its pickup division. During his interview with MotorTrend, it’s clear that they will be more than ready in 2024 or 2025. In terms of price, we can only speculate that they will try to fit somewhere between the $22,595 Ford Maverick and the $22,595 Hyundai Santa Cruz $25,700.

All that’s left for us to do is wait. As you can see, there is a lot of information floating around about the new Toyota Stout. There’s nothing concrete at the moment, but some sources are screaming that something is on the way from Toyota. Is he brave? We don’t know, but we sure hope that’s the case.
