2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn: Everything you need to know
The Volkswagen Jetta has been a staple of the Volkswagen lineup for more than four decades. While the brand has moved into the much-loved crossover SUV, the Jetta still continues to deliver its fun-to-drive characteristics in a stylish and practical package. Volkswagen offers several variants of the Jetta with varying levels of power and performance, but the Jetta GLI Autobahn sits at the top.
Volkswagen split the Jetta into two model lines: the Jetta and the Jetta GLI. The GLI was also divided into two trim levels: the well-equipped base version, dubbed the 40th Anniversary Edition, and the more loaded Autobahn. The GLI 40th features a black honeycomb grille with red accents, LED headlights, dual exhaust with chrome tips, 18-inch black alloy wheels and red brake calipers.

Autobahn highlights include an electronically controlled limited-slip/locking front differential, a panoramic sunroof and leather seats. Autobahn also offers the Black Package, which adds a black roof, black spoiler, black mirror caps and black alloy wheels.
The sporty theme continues in the Autobahn cabin with sports seats trimmed in Titan Black perforated leather with red stitching and lighting. The seats are electrically adjustable with heating and ventilation. The Autobahn also gets a leather-wrapped and heated sports steering wheel with GLI badging and touchscreen controls. Paddle shifters are standard on Autobahn models equipped with an automatic transmission.
Like the rest of the Jetta lineup, the GLI Autobahn features a spacious cabin with ample head and legroom in both rows. The trunk has a volume of 14.1 cubic feet, and the rear seats fold down for added versatility.
The Jetta GLI 40th and Autobahn feature Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit, which provides the driver with a configurable 10.25-inch digital display, giving the sedan a modern feel. The screen can display a variety of customizable tools or it can present a full-screen map overlaid with vital driver information.
Both GLI models come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. The Autobahn also features a nine-speaker stereo.

The Jetta has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are standard, although you can opt for a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
With the manual, it gets 24 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. With the automatic transmission, mileage is 26/30 mpg City/Highway.
Volkswagen equips all Jettas with IQ.DRIVE, the company’s suite of driver-assistance features, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
Also standard is Travel Assist, a semi-autonomous system that provides steering inputs to keep the vehicle centered in its lane while using adaptive cruise control to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Note that this is not a hands-free system, and the capacitive steering wheel ensures that the driver keeps his or her hand on the wheel.
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn is on sale now starting at $31,785.
