Austin Taco and Burrito Truck Daigos are opening two new food trucks

San Diego-style Mexican food truck Daygos San Diego Taco Shop had to close its original location at Oskar Blues Brewery, because the brewery suddenly closed on November 2. However, it will move the truck and open a second location this month. There will be a truck at Nomadic Outpost at 3505 Country White Lane in Sunset Valley and then at 5th Element Brewing in Leander at 100 East Evans Street. Opening dates are not yet known. Owner Dre Johnson opened Daygos in early 2021.
Expansion of Driftwood Brewery in San Antonio
Driftwood brewery and restaurant Vista Brewing opened its new San Antonio café and taproom last month. The all-day café and taproom can be found at 125 Lamar Street in Dignowity Hill as of October 21. On deck, European-style drinks will be served as well as foods such as confit duck wings, Texas cheese boards, prosciutto and goat cheese. Stuffed meatloaf. This week, it hosts an opening weekend celebration on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday. There are other opening week specials before then, such as half off coffee and 25 percent off bottles of Texas wine on Wednesday, November 15, a $15 Wagyu burger and beer combo special on Thursday, November 16, and happy hour beer flights and sodas. Pastries on Friday, November 17th.
Vista already had a previous location in San Antonio as of 2021 in the West Side neighborhood, which closed in July because it decided to move to that address because it was larger.
Vietnam restaurant opening alert
A new Vietnamese restaurant serving pho and boba opened in North Austin in mid-October. Pho 63 Boba Tea Cafe is located at 907 Kramer Lane. It is currently operating with limited take-out service only. Food-wise, there are classics like banh xue (savory Vietnamese dumplings), banh bot loc hue (tapioca dumplings), and a variety of pho and rice/noodle/banh mi varieties. Drinks include milk teas such as strawberry, banana, coconut, taro, and winter melon. Plus Vietnamese coffee, Thai tea and more. There is iced tea as well
North Austin Cafe Switcheroo
After closing All Gimmicks Coffee inside Fairweather Cider in late October, the cidery company opened a new café inside the space as of November 10. The espresso drinks are made with beans from Brooklyn-based Sey Coffee, plus there’s matcha and churro milk. The cidery company is also celebrating its sixth anniversary on Saturday, November 25 with a party centered around its first beer starting at 6 p.m.
Track food events in Austin
The nonprofit Texas Food & Wine Alliance is hosting a Friendsgiving event by pitmaster Aaron Franklin this week. The family-style dinner will include dishes such as Chef Franklin’s entrees and Michael Wojtasik’s Olamai; Along with Fiore Tedesco of L’Oca d’Oro, Sarah McIntosh of Epicerie, and Jakub Czyszczon of Fairmont Austin; Desserts from Houston bakery Rebecca Mason of Fluff Bake Bar; Homemade Desserts by Jessica Maher of Lenoir; and cocktails by wine expert Robert Bjorn Taylor. Tickets are $195 and will be held on Thursday, November 16 at Camp Mabry from 6:30-9 p.m.
Mezcal at an Austin restaurant
South Lamar restaurant El Naranjo now has its own Oaxacan mezcal, produced with Gusto Histórico distillery and made in Miahuatlán. It is made with espadín de milpa, bicuixe agave, and oranges.
