Builder who tore up his neighbor’s trampoline in a bitter parking row is banned from leaving his truck anywhere but his own.

  • Simon Short, 45, destroyed his neighbour’s trampoline in Southampton last year
  • He violated a restraining order by blocking his neighbors in their parking spaces

A construction worker who tore up his neighbour’s trampoline has been banned from parking anywhere other than his own in the latest stage of a bitter row.

Simon Short, 45, was given a restraining order in June last year after he destroyed the device when it was blown away by strong winds in a shared car park in Southampton, Hampshire.

However, Short then breached the ban by blocking his neighbour’s car and, on other occasions, parked his truck in their space.

Judges heard that Short’s behavior made his neighbors feel like they were “walking on eggshells” despite his insistence that the claims were “delusional lies”.

Now, the builder – who said he couldn’t leave his truck on the street because of drug addicts in the area – has been banned from parking anywhere other than his spot for the next three years.

Both sets of neighbors had access to a shared parking lot with designated parking spaces.

After the restraining order was imposed in June 2022, Short was accused of breaching it just four months later in October of the same year.

Prosecutor Natalie Angell told Southampton Crown Court that Short knew the space was owned by unnamed neighbours, and despite telling magistrates the land was not his, he refused to accept it.

“He basically parked the car blocking them out and then moved on,” she said.

‘(The neighbor) is puzzled and shocked by the behavior of this accused. He does not feel safe in his home.

“He feels like he’s walking on eggshells all the time. He said I just want him to leave us alone and stop influencing our lives.

However, Short insisted that the events were “all bogus lies” and that he was “the victim of a hate crime”.

Speaking during the sentencing, he told the judges: “It’s a terrible story.” It’s completely ridiculous. I had to pay the price for this shameful trial.

The construction worker initially pleaded not guilty to violating the restraining order, but was found guilty at trial after he argued he could not park on the street because of drug addicts in the area.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £620 for the incident on October 15 last year.

He was also given a six-month community order with 12 rehabilitation days and must pay a surcharge of £114.

A new restraining order was issued banning him from contacting his neighbor or parking anywhere other than his own for the next three years.
