Cadillac launches the new CT6 sedan and GT4 crossover in China

  • Cadillac has unveiled the second generation of the CT6 sedan, but unfortunately the rear-wheel drive car will be exclusive to China.
  • There’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four under the hood, while a 33-inch screen extends across the leather-wrapped dashboard.
  • Cadillac also revealed the new GT4 crossover, which is at the small end of the Chinese brand’s lineup but still includes that huge curved screen.

Cadillac’s sales in the United States have suffered over the past few decades, but the situation in China is rosier, where the brand posted about 60,000 more sales than it did in its home country last year. The CT6 large sedan — which disappeared in the U.S. after 2020 — lives on overseas, and now Cadillac has unveiled a new generation for China, debuting alongside a new SUV model called the GT4.

The CT6 doesn’t look significantly different from the outgoing car, with a sleek, clean body and vertical taillights. Subtle LEDs sit above the main headlamp units and flow into the wide grille that mimics the shape of the Cadillac logo. Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a 33.0-inch curved screen, while the rest of the cabin is trimmed in premium Nappa leather and open-pore wood with metallic accents. Ambient lighting can be set to 26 different colours.

The CT6 remains rear-wheel drive, but instead of the V6 and V8 engines that power the CT6 we get in America, the Chinese car is propelled by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. moving in. The CT6 will also come with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free highway driving technology that will automatically initiate a lane change in the right conditions. Prices will open at around $50,000.

Cadillac also showed off the new GT4, referring to it as a “coupe-style SUV.” While the crossover model has a lower profile compared to the more upright XT4 model that also competes in the compact SUV segment, it’s not quite as coupe-like as cars like the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. The GT4 follows the same design language as the CT6, and the Sport Package adds 19-inch black aluminum wheels, a black roof, and other dark accents.

The 33.0-inch screen makes another appearance in the GT4, which offers a 15-speaker sound system, a color head-up display, heated and cooled front seats, and a 360-degree surround-view camera setup. Under the hood is one of two four-cylinder engines, either a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit or a 2.0-liter turbo unit.

The four engines are linked to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and include 48-volt hybrid systems. Front-wheel drive is standard, but the GT4 can be equipped with all-wheel drive. The GT4 will start at around $31,000. While the CT6 will likely remain a China-exclusive model as American tastes shift away from sedans, the GT4 will likely reach our shores.
