David “Dave” Kimi « The VW Independent

David “Dave” Kemmy, 81, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Vancrest Assisted Living.

He was born September 15, 1942 in Paulding County. He was the son of Ernest Kemmy and Ova Hesper (Roberts) Kemmy, both of whom preceded him in death. He married the former Janet Shaner on September 28, 1963 and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2021.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle (Eric) Gunter, of Van Wert and a son, Doug Kemmy, of New York, NY. He was a proud grandfather of Gracie, Garrett, Griffin Gunter, Andrew Kimme and Zachary Kimme. He also had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael Kimmy. brother, Gordon Kimmy; Sister Ruth Foust and sister Lucille Watson.

Dave graduated from Van Wert High School in 1960. After high school, Dave entered the workforce and spent most of his career at Aeroquip and then Eaton. Dave retired from Eaton in 2005. While raising his family, Dave often worked extra jobs, including lifeguarding at the YMCA, cleaning for Greve Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, and driving for West Ohio Gas. He also served on the Lincoln View Board of Education as a Jackson Township Trustee. During retirement, Dave worked part time at Flat Lands Supply.

Dave attended the Christian Zion Union Church for over 46 years. There he served as a church elder, taught Sunday school, and helped volunteer in many church projects. Dave’s strong Christian faith led him to become a servant leader in the community, always stepping in to help others in need. Dave was a family man and a social butterfly. He loved attending and supporting his grandchildren’s activities, especially sporting events where the Cougars cheered. His hobbies included gardening and eating out, and he loved solving the world’s problems with his best friend Jim. On any given day, you might find him cruising around in his golf cart with his doodle, Ruby Girl. Dave has spent the past year traveling with his daughter, causing mischief with his brother-in-law, and living life to the fullest.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, November 4, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Creatory, Van Wert. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 5 at 2 pm in the monastery cemetery With Rev. Judy Harr officiating. A private family committal service will be conducted at Woodland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials: Van Wert Recking Crew in support of the Van Wert football team or the Van Wert Basketball team in support of the boys basketball program.
