Fire crews respond to wildfires and plane crashes in Merrimack, New Hampshire

Fire crews from several towns were busy Sunday afternoon containing several wildfires along the Everett Turnpike and responding to a car and fire truck crash. No one was injured in those fires. Merrimack Captain. Sean Farrell said they received a phone call reporting multiple brush fires along the south side of Everett Turnpike in Merrimack sometime between 1 and 1:30 Sunday afternoon. He said there were between six and twelve fires in total, and crews from Nashua, Bedford and Amherst also responded. Farrell said the fire truck involved in this incident near Exit 12 was helping put out the wildfires. He said that the only person in the fire engine was the driver, who was on his way back from refilling the truck’s water tank when a car collided with its side. The fire engine driver safely removed the adult and four children from the vehicle, who sustained minor injuries. The car caught fire, but the firefighter himself was able to extinguish it. Farrell said there was no significant damage caused by the wildfires. “There does not appear to be any property damage. It’s mostly just stuff on the side of the highway that burned. “The top layer of leaves,” Farrell said. “Everyone worked hard. Our mutual aid partners got here very quickly. We had some communication issues, but that’s par for the course for us. Police are investigating the exact cause of the wildfire and fire truck crash.
