Legacy Oaks of Azle sees Cousins Maine Lobster as the first guest at the first of many food truck experiences this September
AZLE – In September, Legacy Oaks of Azle (LOOA) hosts food trucks on Fridays. Every Friday, food trucks from all over Ft Dallas. The Worth District will offer great mobile dining options for customers in the LOOA parking lot. First, Cousins Maine Lobster offered a menu filled with oysters, chowder and other New England delicacies on the first of the month.
On September 8, the independent and assisted living facility hosted Miss George’s Grilled Cheese. On September 15, Mission Burgers will debut. On Sept. 22, Zi Zi food truck serving Cajun and soul food. LOOA is still looking for a food truck for September 29th.
“We wanted to set up this event to invite others in the community to come and see Legacy Oaks and offer something different each week,” said Nicole Wesson, LOOA director. “We also offer free milkshakes when purchasing from the food truck. Visitors can also receive a free milkshake when purchasing from the food truck located inside LOOA Bistro.
The food truck options and free milkshakes were a treat for guests visiting loved ones at the facility.
“I like the idea of this kind of thing coming to them,” said Lisa, who was visiting her parents, Art and Pat. “We all thought it was a bit pricey, however, I love it and it smells really good and I really love that they offered shakes to go with it.”
Other Azal residents have been searching the Internet for the variety and modernity offered by these trucks, and for some, they offer a reminder of home.
“I’ve been looking for this truck for weeks,” Lori Bruce said of the Cousins Maine Lobster truck. “Every time we see where she is, we can’t do it because we’re doing something. And now, today, it was like, ‘We’re not doing anything, let’s go.'”
Lori’s husband, Richard, is originally from Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest and is always on the lookout for good seafood options.
“We love the fish truck, and we were trying to catch lobster,” Richard said. “Being from the Northwest, we love fresh seafood, but we can’t get it anywhere. To get good seafood, you have to go to a seafood truck.”
The couple, who brought their cat named Monkey along for a little adventure, plan to keep an eye on future food truck opportunities in Azle’s future.
“We love food trucks,” the couple said. “Food pods are great because the variety is there. You don’t have to go from place to place if everyone is picky. It’s like, ‘You go there, I’ll go here.'”
They expressed interest when they were told that Azle might soon begin holding its own food truck park events in a large area on Church Street.
“It looks like it’s going to be fun,” they said. “That would be great, we can totally understand that.”
Plans for the park will continue to move forward and will be developed at future City Council meetings.
