Four suspects face carjacking charges after an all-night police chase
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested four suspects in connection with a vehicle theft investigation in Oakville.
On Tuesday, September 12, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers attended the South Oakville Chrysler dealership at 174 Wycroft Road in Oakville for reports of a group of suspects believed to be attempting to steal a blue Dodge Ram. The suspects arrived in a black Dodge Ram that was later found to have been stolen from Mississauga the day before.
Responding officers observed the black ram in the area and attempted a traffic stop. The driver was unable to stop for the police and fled the area at high speed. The vehicle eventually lost control and struck a guardrail on the westbound QEW in the Bronte Road area.
At that time, the three occupants of the car were arrested.
31-year-old Ashish Sharma from Mississauga has been charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicles
- Possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 (stolen license plate)
- Possession of the master key
- Possession of breaking tools
30-year-old Jennifer Singh from Toronto was charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicles
- Possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 (stolen license plate)
- Possession of the master key
- Possession of breaking tools
- Trip from the police
- Dangerous operation
- Failure to comply with a release order (two counts)
- Failure to adhere to the pledge
Rajpal Sran, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicles
- Possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 (stolen license plate)
- Possession of the master key
- Possession of breaking tools
The three suspects were taken to the hospital after sustaining minor injuries.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers received information that another suspect was still at the Chrysler dealership. Officers returned to the agency and the fourth suspect was arrested and placed under arrest.
25-year-old Himanshu Yadav of Etobicoke is charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicles
- Possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 (stolen license plate)
- Possession of the master key
- Possession of breaking tools
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – heroin
- Failure to comply with a release order
- Failure to adhere to the pledge
All four suspects were detained awaiting a bail hearing.
