Highway 221 closed after fatal accident

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2009 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck traveling southbound on US Highway 221 and a Jeep Grand The 2005 Cherokee was southbound. It was headed east on Ezell Road when the Jeep attempted to turn left onto US 221 and collided with the Toyota. Troopers say the driver of the Toyota was injured and the sole occupant was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital by EMS. Troopers say the jeep had four passengers. According to troopers, the driver and two passengers were injured and taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital by EMS. The third occupant of the Jeep died from his injuries at the scene, according to troopers. Troopers say the driver of the Toyota was injured and the sole occupant was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital by EMS.
