At the beginning of 2024, Hyundai launched the updated version of the Baiyun small crossover model, just two years after the model was introduced to the market.

Hyundai already had the K2 platform used in the i20 when it thought of building the Bayon on it. I raised the suspension, built a new chassis and called it a day. But the result was not something one might think was made in haste because it was not. Moreover, its unveiling was delayed due to the pandemic situation, and Hyundai launched it in March 2021. Only three years later, the small crossover got an update in terms of design and safety features.

The Korean automaker has completely changed the front end of the Bayon, creating an almost seamless light strip for the daytime running lights placed on the lower edge of the hood. Although the car was not designed to take its customers to the top of the mountain and back via difficult trails, it was equipped with a more aggressive front bumper. The piano black midsection and lower apron outfitted with silver trim that mimicked lower armor looked sturdy. In addition, a set of side scoops flanking the lower grille formed an air curtain that enhanced the car’s aerodynamics.

From its profile, the hatchback’s design remained similar to that of the non-facelifted version of the Bayonne. Its sculpted side door panels and the crease that crosses the car from the front fenders to the taillights remained unchanged. However, Hyundai added new wheel options, which were available in 16- and 17-inch sizes. The car’s rising waistline is emphasized by a chrome-plated trim running down the underside of the window line. At the rear, the forward-sloping C-pillars feature redesigned, arrow-shaped taillights that are directed inward. They are also visually linked via a red stripe that intersects the metal portion of the tailgate at the underside of the rear window. The 2024 Hyundai Bayon was offered with a choice of nine colours.

Inside, the automaker has installed the same bolstered front seats that can keep its customers in place during high-speed cornering maneuvers. However, the Baiyun was neither a sports car nor a hot hatch. It was just a regular grocery car made to look aggressive but with a nice interior. On the dashboard, Hyundai has installed a pair of 10.25-inch displays. The screen in front of the driver was for the instrument panel, and the touchscreen above the center stack was for the infotainment unit. Previously, the latter was available in an 8-inch variant, but Hyundai has dropped it. A high-quality Bose audio system with eight speakers was on the options list, proving that even if a car isn’t priced like a premium car, it can still offer upscale amenities. In terms of safety, Hyundai has added a Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) system that can brake the car when it needs it. In addition, Driver Attention Warning and Lane Departure Warning are fitted as standard.
