Is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma too small?
The Toyota Tacoma has been redesigned for the 2024 model year and has been completely changed from the ground up. What a difference from last year.
It was already the best-selling midsize truck in the country, and Tacoma fans and enthusiasts were wondering how Toyota engineers would craft the new design. For the most part, I’ve seen mostly positive reviews.
Very positive reviews, actually.
Toyota Tacoma 2024
I was invited to evaluate the 2024 Tacoma for myself in Hawaii a month ago, and came away completely amazed. We now have a powerful, muscular and imposing exterior.
and an updated interior with all-new technology, safety, features, systems and off-road tools.
In addition, eight different trim levels are offered, each with its own individual and unique look and feel. You can choose from the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, the overland-capable Trailhunter, and the popular TRD Pro (3 of these models have much more cargo space).

Remember the great increase in power between generations. For 2023, drivers can expect 278 hp and 265 lb-ft. Torque in all grades. In 2024, with the i-FORCE MAX option, look for a whopping 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Torque.
Huge energy boost, my friends.
2024 Toyota Tacoma changes
Naturally, when a very popular car is redesigned, there will be things that fans love and hate.
Of course no car is 100% perfect.
You’ll find a lot of aspects to enjoy and love about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, but there’s one (possibly insignificant) change you might not like as much.
When comparing the design of the new 2024 Tacoma to the (current) 2023 Tacoma, I noticed one feature that is distinctly smaller than last year.
Sliding rear window.
2024 tacoma rear window
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma’s sliding rear window is not as large as the 2023. This new slider is not as tall vertically. It is also rounded versus more squared for 2023.
The question is whether this change is an important factor or whether it is relatively unimportant.
I know many truck owners enjoy opening their back windows to allow air in for back seat passengers, such as children, and their furry fellow travelers.
Will these people care about the updated design or not at all? For me, I wouldn’t care if the small window obstructed my view in any way. I don’t expect that to happen but I don’t know for sure either.
It’s time to give your Toyota Tacoma feedback
I was so impressed with the all-new 2024 Tacoma that it was hard to find things I didn’t really care about. Toyota’s engineers have really outdone themselves, and they should be proud of it.
The Toyota Tacoma is scheduled to launch later this year (petrol only – the i-FORCE MAX hybrid will launch in early 2024). I couldn’t be more excited to drive this device myself when it’s available for a media drive.
What things do you like so far about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and what things aren’t you excited about? Does the sliding rear window matter to you if it’s smaller than last year, or is that not a factor in your decision to buy or not buy?
