Manchester accident sends bicyclist to trauma center – MidJersey.News

MANCHESTER, NJ (OCEAN) – Police say that on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the area of ​​2011 Route 37 for a report of a bicyclist. Upon arrival, officers observed a white 2021 Dodge Ram Cargo van with damage to the front passenger side and extensive damage to the windshield. Officers also observed a man lying on the grassy area in front of the plaza and a black electric bike that was severely damaged. The driver of the Dodge Ram Cargo Van has been identified as 34-year-old Jack Ravena of Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Ravina did not suffer any injuries as a result of the accident. The electric bike rider has been identified as 46-year-old Raymond Santore of Manchester, New Jersey. Mr. Santore suffered trauma to his right leg and several lacerations to his head and face. Mr. Santore was airlifted via MEDAVAC, to the Jersey Shore University Hospital Trauma Center, in Neptune, N.J., to be elevated to a higher level for his injuries.

The crash investigation revealed that the Dodge Ram Cargo Van was traveling westbound on State Highway 37 in the right lane of travel. A Dodge Ram Cargo van traveling west on State Highway 37 was approaching the 2011 Route 37 entrance and began turning right into the entrance. Mr. Santore was traveling east on the west side of State Highway 37 on his electric bicycle while wearing dark clothing and no helmet. Mr. Santore struck a Dodge Ram Cargo Van on the front passenger side of the vehicle. Mr. Santore was thrown from his bike and then struck the passenger-side windshield of the vehicle. After the initial collision with the Dodge Ram Cargo Van, Mr. Santore and his electric bike continued traveling east for approximately 10 feet before coming to final rest in the grassy section of the plaza.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs from Manchester Township EMS and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The crash investigation is ongoing, but at this point, not riding with the flow of traffic and using dark clothing are primary contributing factors to the crash. This accident is being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatoro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
