The Mercedes-Benz GLE in its latest guise was officially launched in the Indian car market on Thursday. The GLE SUV is priced from $96.4 lakh, up to $1.15 crore (ex-showroom) and now gets a number of cosmetic updates on the outside and an updated feature list in the cabin. The company also launched the C43 AMG 4Matic on the sidelines of the launch of the GLE at a price $98 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Mercedes-Benz GLE falls between the GLC and GLS in the company’s SUV lineup in India.

The Mercedes GLE is an important model for the German brand in India and falls between the GLC and GLS in the company’s SUV lineup here. It is also the best-selling Mercedes SUV in the country (in terms of cumulative sales) with more than 20,000 units on the roads here. While the GLC was updated earlier this year, the GLE will now also look to gain more traction. Like most other Mercedes SUVs here, the GLE continues to be offered with petrol and diesel engine options, and comes with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

Design updates to the Mercedes GLE 2023:

The updates to the exterior of the latest Mercedes GLE are not radical, but they are important nonetheless. It now features a reworked front bumper with the Performance line getting a double horizontal chrome stripe on the Pro line and a single chrome stripe on the AMG line. The headlights have also been reworked with LED technology. The rear bumper has also been updated slightly while the taillights have also been updated.

Changes in the cabin in the Mercedes GLE 2023:

The cabin design and cabin space remain the same as the updated GLE but there are some parts that have been updated to give the GLE a slightly fresher feel to the passengers inside. Among them are a new steering wheel and chrome-plated air conditioning vents. The MBUX system on the infotainment screen has been updated. Highlights include four-zone climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a long range of safety-related extras.

Other features include a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, a 360-degree camera, and the GLE 450 and GLE 450d are equipped with air suspension.

Technical specifications of the Mercedes GLE 2023:

All three versions of the updated GLE come in long-wheelbase or LWB versions. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is also standard on all three versions while a 48-volt Integrated Starter Generator or ISG is also available on all three versions.

The GLE 300d comes with a 2-litre diesel engine under the hood that produces 269bhp and 550Nm of torque. Mercedes claims it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

In the price pyramid, the GLE 450 comes next, which derives its power from a six-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that generates 381 horsepower and a torque of 500 Newton metres. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is done in 5.6 seconds, which is the same as the top-of-the-range GLE 450d which gets a six-cylinder engine that produces 367bhp and 750Nm of torque.
