Soldiers remind drivers
To stay alert, buckle up through the holiday Troopers will be deployed across the region this Thanksgiving holiday as part of the Pennsylvania State Police’s ongoing efforts to save lives and keep roads and highways safe. In anticipation of increased vehicle traffic from Wednesday, November 22 to Sunday, November 26, PSP Greensburg troopers will be monitoring for distracted, aggressive and intoxicated motorists on area roads and highways. The wallet was stolen from the car
State Police in Greensburg report investigating the theft of a wallet from a vehicle parked on Main Street in Madison. The incident was reported to police on November 12 at 10:33 a.m. by a 23-year-old known victim from North Huntingdon. According to the report, the owner of the car – a 2010 Honda – told police that he left on Friday, November 10, and returned on Sunday, November 12, to find that his car had been entered. The car was open when the accident occurred. The owner told investigators the only item taken was his wallet (black leather with denim lining) which contained approximately $50 in cash inside. A screening of the area yielded negative results for any surveillance. No fingerprints were found on the vehicle at the time of investigation.
Minor collision reported in Hempfield Township State Police in Greensburg are investigating a minor collision between two vehicles that occurred on November 16 at 11:46 a.m. on Old Route 30 south of U.S. Route 30 in Hempfield Township. According to the report, Unit No. 1 was a 2015 Nissan Rogue. Unit No. 2 was a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The accident occurred when Unit No. 2 was parked at a properly marked stop sign on Old Route 30. Unit No. 1 was behind Unit No. 2, which It was merging onto Route 30 East when Unit No. 1 struck Unit No. 2 in the area of the rear bumper. Both cars stopped in a nearby parking lot. The drivers and passengers, who were not identified in a public information release report filed by PSP Greensburg, reported no injuries. Investigators said minor scratches on both vehicles were pre-existing.
The brakes failed in the Wahda Town crash
State Police in Greensburg report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on November 15 at 4:06 pm on White School Road at its intersection with Grandview Drive in Unity Township. According to the report, 66-year-old Barbara M. Craig of Ligonier was driving a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 south on White School Road. While the car was moving, the brake system malfunctioned. Craig then performed an evasive maneuver to prevent a road accident, swerved to her left and struck an embankment located along the east shoulder of White School Road just after its intersection with Grandview Drive. The vehicle’s undercarriage made an initial impact on the bridge and came to final rest. The Chevy had disabling damage and was inoperable. Craig did not report any injuries.
Vehicles towed after the Route 119 crash
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on November 13 at 12:19 p.m. on U.S. Route 119 in Salem Township. According to the report, Unit No. 1 was a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse operated by 60-year-old Kathleen M. Hilty of Black Lake. There were also two passengers – Benjamin R. 36-year-old Hilty and a 4-year-old woman, both of Black Lake – were in the car at the time of the crash. Unit #2 was a 2014 Dodge Caravan operated by 53-year-old Wendy J. Pierce of Glen Campbell. The accident occurred when the driver of Unit 1 failed to reach Unit 2 as it turned left onto Roosevelt Road from Route 119. No injuries were reported at the scene. Both units were towed from the scene by Gombach Towing & Auto Salvage. PSP Kiski Valley was assisted at the scene by members of the Crabtree Volunteer Fire Department.
Damage was reported in a rear-end collision
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Nov. 14 at 6:22 a.m. on U.S. Route 22 west of Gunnett Road in Derry Township. According to the report, Unit No. 1 was a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500, which was operated by 65-year-old Lynn Gleason of Aurora, Colorado. Unit #2 was a 2013 Ford Fiesta operated by Leslie A. 27-year-old Crownover of Blairsville. The accident occurred when Unit No. 1 was heading east, behind Unit No. 2, which began to slow down due to a red traffic light in front of it. Gleason was unable to stop Unit No. 1 in time and subsequently struck the rear end of Unit No. 2. Both vehicles pulled off the road and onto the south shoulder of Route 22. Unit No. 2 sustained crippling damage and was destroyed. It was towed from the scene by Bob Hafer’s Towing. Unit No. 1 sustained minor damage and was able to be removed from the scene. The drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported.
