A collision between two vehicles in the Salem area
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Oct. 19 at 12:15 a.m. on U.S. Route 22 east of Hornock Drive in Salem Township. According to the report, 32-year-old Rykely P. Olson of Johnstown was driving a 2018 Hyundai Elantra east on Route 22 when a deer exited into the left lane. The Hyundai struck the deer, and after the collision, Olson veered the vehicle off the right shoulder of the road. The sedan came to final rest on the east-facing shoulder. Investigators said Olson suffered possible injuries but did not require medical transport.
A crash was reported in the town of Loyalhanna
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Oct. 24 at 7:24 a.m. on State Route 981 west of Harvat Road in Loyalhanna Township. According to the report, Andrew K. Boring, a 30-year-old from New Florence, was driving a 2020 Ford F-150XLT north on Route 981 and struck a deer in the road. The vehicle was disabled with front end damage from the collision. The truck was privately towed by McCutcheon Enterprises. Boring did not report any injuries and was wearing a seat belt.
Driver refuses test, charged with DUI
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on September 17 at 8:27 pm on High Acres Road west of Chica Road in Salem Township. According to the report, Corey P. Diana, 38, of Lithia, Florida, was operating a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 on High Acres Road. The accident occurred when the truck swerved to the left, ran off the road and hit a large tree. The impact of the collision caused the car to flip onto the passenger side. Investigators said Diana showed signs of intoxication and admitted to using Xanax. The driver refused to take a chemical test and was charged with driving under the influence.
No injuries in Salem Township crash
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Oct. 23 at 1:47 a.m. on U.S. Route 22 west of Oak Hill Road in Salem Township. According to the report, Nicole L. 37-year-old Palermo of Bethel Park driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson west on Route 22 in the left lane. The accident occurred when a deer ran into the westbound lane. The SUV struck the deer, and after impact, it permanently came to rest on the west-facing side of the road.
A collision between two cars in Derry
Kiski Valley State Police report investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Oct. 21 at 3:22 a.m. on U.S. Route 22 east of Gunnett Road in Derry Township. According to the report, Unit No. 1 was a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt operated by 19-year-old Anthony R. Ashbaugh of Clarksburg. Unit #2 was a 2022 Chevrolet Trax operated by 62-year-old Roxanne Gillette of Black Lake. The accident occurred while Unit 1 was traveling east on Route 22 in Derry Township. Ashbaugh swerved his vehicle to miss a deer and lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the cement median and into the westbound travel lanes. The Cobalt’s front bumper struck the front passenger tire and the front passenger side door of Unit No. 2. The Chevy then struck a utility pole and two street signs before coming to a final rest stop facing west. Investigators said Ashbaugh suffered minor injuries but refused medical transport. Gillette was not injured.
PSP: The wires were pulled from the house by a tractor trailer
Greensburg State Police report investigating an accident that occurred on September 29 at 1:02 PM at 217 Roxbury Drive, Hempfield Township. According to the report, a tractor trailer was traveling on Roxbury Drive and struck a power cord hanging from a pole. This wire was pulled from the home at 217 Roxbury Drive. The vehicle was identified as a white tractor-trailer, which then left the scene.
A utility pole was damaged in the Aruna Road crash
State Police in Greensburg report investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. at 325 Arona Road in Hempfield Township. According to the report, it was Cody B. Allison, 33, of Josephine, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala east on Arona Road when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole on the side of the road. Allison was transported via Mutual Aid Ambulance to Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg for treatment of possible injuries.
Greensburg man charged with DUI
State Police in Greensburg reported conducting a traffic stop on October 24 at 10:43 p.m. on a 2002 Ford Explorer at the intersection of eastbound US Route 30 and Mount Pleasant Road in Hempfield Township. According to the report, 52-year-old James Rosenberg of Greensburg was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer when troopers noticed the driver committing traffic violations. Investigators said Rosenberg showed signs of impairment during the traffic stop and later refused to undergo testing. PSP Greensburg said charges will be filed against Rosenberg.
A DUI has been reported in Hempfield Township
Greensburg State Police responded on Oct. 13 at 5:38 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash on private property at 809 Honker Lumber Road in Hempfield Township. According to the report, the driver involved in the crash — 44-year-old Stephanie Fisher of Bethel Park — showed signs of impairment and underwent a breath test. Charges reported to PSP Greensburg will be filed.
A traffic stop results in a DUI arrest
State Police in Greensburg reported conducting a traffic stop on Oct. 22 at 2:59 a.m. on a 2016 Kia Optima at the intersection of Abacus Lane and U.S. Route 30 in Hempfield Township. According to the report, police stopped 21-year-old Michael Gaffney of Irwin and subsequently arrested him for driving under the influence.
