Peugeot E-3008 SUV with 316 horsepower and a range of 435 miles

Mid-sized SUV

Peugeot has just launched its first electric SUV, the E-3008. But it also shows us a lot of what Chrysler’s new electric SUV will be like, so we get a sneak peek of sorts.

Chrysler is working on one model in 2024, the Pacifica subcompact, with buzz about several electric models on the way. The good news is that with today’s reveal of the 2024 Peugeot E-3008 EV SUV, we’re getting a peek at what one of Chrysler’s EVs will look like in either 2025 or 2026. And we can extrapolate from what’s below to predict a lot about the first new Chrysler A long time ago.

The Peugeot E-3008 EV is the first of what will be a steady stream of variants using the STLA Medium electric platform. With Stellantis having so many brands to feed, others besides Chrysler will get it too. But we’ll focus on Chrysler because if there’s one brand under the Stellantis umbrella that needs something, anything new, it’s Chrysler.

What electric vehicle power options and ranges will the Chrysler SUV have?

Peugeot will offer three models, based mostly on electric vehicle power options, starting with the Electric 210. With 207bhp from its single motor, its 73kWh battery gives it a range of 326 miles. Next is the Electric 320 Long Range. Its 98 kWh motor gives drivers a range of up to 435 miles.

Then there’s the top-level Electric 320, the performance version of the trio. It has twin motors, giving it four-wheel drive. With 240 kilowatts and 316 hp, it goes from zero to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds. It’s not exactly a barn stove, but it shares the Electric 210’s 326-mile range.

Will Chrysler’s new SUV just be an electric car?

But the STLA Medium platform is versatile enough to also feature hybrid power and a PHEV under the 3008 moniker. But Peugeot says they won’t be here for another year or two. So the Chrysler version will offer the same three engines, but it is not known whether it will surprise them as Peugeot does.

As for the design, we expect the Chrysler version to have a similar upper section from the Fastback SUV, with different sheet metal below the windows. It could also carry over the hood and door panels, with the only real changes affecting the fascia, front fenders and taillights. After all, Stellantis doesn’t offer Peugeot products in North America, so the similarities wouldn’t be as obvious.

What about inside?

Inside, we like the angle of the flat panel as well as the separation from the use of a number of different upholstery materials. If it goes to the Chrysler version, we wouldn’t be upset. The instrument panel features a 21-inch curved panoramic i-Cockpit display.

Cargo capacity is 18.4 cubic feet, but with the additional motor in the 320 EV, capacity diminishes slightly. It probably won’t contain fruit. The wheelbase extends to 107.8 inches, providing decent legroom for a two-row SUV.

So, as a preview of Chrysler’s new electric vehicle, it hits all the right buttons — an SUV with plenty of powertrain options, most of the electric kind. The new design language, coupled with modern features inside, should bring some much-needed energy to the moribund brand. At least, we hope.
