The suspected vandals at Cochrane Hall were arrested

Several individuals have been arrested in connection with vandalism at Cochran Hall on the Fairfield Hills campus on October 26, Newtown Police reported. At approximately 10:20 p.m., the Newtown Police Department was notified that several individuals were on the roof of Cochran Hall. The caller informed management that there had been damage to the building and that air conditioning units had fallen from the roof.

Officers arrived and found three people inside the building, two adults and a juvenile. There was fresh damage to the building and an air conditioning unit was hanging on the roof.

Police arrested Anthony Petrucci, 18, of Newtown, and charged him with simple trespassing. Also arrested was Ryan Gellinger, 18, of Sandy Hook, who was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, third-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal trespass.

The young man was not identified.

Wallet found

Newtown police reported that on October 27, a citizen turned over a gray wallet containing only money that was located at the Mitchell Sunoco gas station, 26 Hawleyville Road. Anyone with information, or the owner, can contact Sergeant Wisentaner at 203-426-5841.

Hit the road sign, guardrail

Newtown police reported that Joseph Fiore, 30, of Brookfield, driving a 2017 Ford Escape, was traveling north on Berkshire Road at 5 a.m. Oct. 28. While negotiating a left curve, Fury’s car veered off the road to the right and struck a road sign and the end of a guardrail.

Fiore was taken to Danbury Hospital with suspected minor injuries. His vehicle was towed.

Fiore was issued a ticket for failure to drive in the correct lane.

Compass hits nitro

Jacqueline Alves, 39, of New Milford, operating a 2020 Jeep Compass, was traveling south on South Main Street at 8 a.m. Oct. 30, Newtown Police reported. She was traveling behind a 2007 Dodge Nitro operated by Deborah Rojo Mora, 53, of Newtown. Rojo Moura slowed down due to the flashing traffic light at the entrance to Sand Hill Plaza, and Alves did not stop in time, as he collided with Rojo Moura’s vehicle from behind.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Alves received a verbal warning for failing to drive a reasonable distance.

Failure to secure the child

Newtown police reported that Sheldon Gordon, 39, of Sandy Hook, driving a 2008 Honda Accord, was traveling east on Wasserman Road at 8:48 a.m. Oct. 30. Gordon’s car slid off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail.

No injuries were reported. The car was towed.

Gordon was issued a verbal warning for a restricted course and an infraction for failure to secure a child in a vehicle or a booster seat.

Finished back on South Main

Newtown police reported that Vivian Kirker, 59, of Bethel, operating a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, was traveling south on South Main Street at 6:42 a.m. Oct. 31. She was traveling behind a 2022 Nissan Maxima operated by Conrad White, 36, of Waterbury. White was stopped for traffic and Kirker’s car struck his car from behind.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Impreza strikes pilot

Newtown police reported that Charles Dunn, 16, of Sandy Hook, driving a 2014 Subaru Impreza, was traveling north on Berkshire Road at 7:50 a.m. on Nov. 1. He was traveling behind a 2015 Honda Pilot operated by Tara Johnson, 45, of Newtown. Johnson stopped for traffic at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Road, and Dunn did not stop in time, striking Johnson’s vehicle from behind.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Dunn received a verbal warning for failing to drive a reasonable distance.

Mirrors collided

Newtown Police reported that James Holt, 39, of Redding, driving a 2018 Ford F350, was turning left from Washington Street onto Church Hill Road at 11:10 a.m. on Nov. 1. , was parked along the west side of Church Hill Road. The passenger side mirror of Holt’s car made contact with the driver’s side mirror of Alvarez-Agbacaja’s car.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Holt received a written warning for failure to drive in the designated lane.

Three vehicles were damaged during the turn

Newtown police reported that Michael Quisenberry, 16, of Sandy Hook, driving a 2016 Subaru Forester, was traveling on Riverside Road at 7:57 a.m. on Nov. 2. Emily Leddy, 36, of Newtown, was driving a 2021 Toyota Sienna, eastbound on Riverside. The road leading to Via Velo Cortes. Rory Kaplan, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Subaru Outback, was stopped on Velo Curtis Road at the intersection with Riverside Road. Quesenberry began turning left from Riverside Road onto Philo Curtis Road and crossed in front of Liddy. The front of Liddy’s car struck the right side of Quisenberry’s car. The front left corner of Quesenberry’s car then collided with the front left corner of Kaplan’s car.

No injuries were reported. Liddy and Kaplan’s vehicles were towed.

Quesenberry was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way while making a left turn.

I collided with the tree

Carlos Contreras Lore, 21, of Sandy Hook, driving a 2018 Mazda CX-3, was northbound on High Rock Road at 8:10 a.m. Nov. 2, Newtown police reported. He traveled off the north side of the road and struck a tree.

No injuries were reported. The car was towed.

Lore was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast due to the conditions.

Parking lot handrail bender

Newtown Police reported that Jackson DeFelice, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, was attempting to park his vehicle in a parking space at 12 Berkshire Road. An unoccupied 2017 Jeep Compass owned by Douglas Verdi was parked nearby. The right front corner of DeFelice’s car made contact with the right front corner of Verdi’s car.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action has been taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Suspect wanted in farm robbery

Newtown Police received a report of a theft from a roadside farmhouse at 101 Toddy Hill Road at 10:07 a.m. on Nov. 7. The police department is currently investigating the incident and is requesting local assistance in identifying the suspect.
