Some of our favorite trucks and SUVs from SEMA 2023

1993 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80: A tribute to mother
This FJ80 has been in the Anak family for 30 years, ever since brand new. It was originally owned by his mother and purchased by his father from Toyota Cerritos. Sadly, she passed away in 2016, and Anak built it to celebrate her life. It’s fitted with a set of 17×8.5-10 Volk Racing TE37XT M Spec tires with a set of 37-inch Kumho Road Venture MT71 tires covering each classic-style forged wheel. The headlights and taillights were replaced with a set of Anzo USA LED lights.
2009 Porsche Cayenne S: a true Porsche off-roader
Geno Foster’s build of the Cayenne off-roader began in 2021 and has really taken off since then. It rides on a set of 18×8.0+20 Victor Equipment Berg wheels with a set of 35-inch Kumho Road Venture tires gripping the trim seats. It also happens to feature a slightly split character to show how versatile the Kumho tires are for both street and dirt, but this is definitely a Porsche worthy of either surface.
1978 Jeep Cherokee Chief S: A golden Jeep classic
When most people under 40 think of a Cherokee, they likely think of an XJ. But the original was a full-size Jeep, and this 1978 is a gold restomod designed by J-Rod and custom owner Jared Hancock. It’s called “Griot’s Gold,” and it’s more than just the paint job that makes the Cherokee Chief S gold.

Under the hood is not the original engine, but a modern Chevrolet V-8, but equipped with fuel injection and a throttle body manifold that allows the use of the original Jeep carburetor cap and placed between the frame rails for a brand new art. Morrison structure. The classic yet modern Jeep was impressive enough to make the final four in the 2023 SEMA Battle of the Builders Championship, taking top honors in the off-road category.
1968 Chevrolet Suburban Three-Door: A rare but redesigned SUV
If you’re not familiar with the history of the classic Suburban, between 1967 and 1972 GMC and Chevrolet created an unusual door design for the Suburban: a three-door version. There is only one door on the driver’s side, and two on the passenger’s side. The idea was that it was safer for all passengers to exit on the side, away from traffic.

It also features a fully custom interior by Vos Upholstery and was entered in the 2023 SEMA Battle of the Builders Championship, where it made the top 10 in the off-road class. This 1968 Suburban was one of three U.S. 12 Speed and Custom vehicles that entered the build phase this year.
Second International Scout Rally with 392
It’s hard to find a 4×4 today, making the 1971-1980 International Scout II a sought-after car. Furthermore, this example in the POR-15 stand is a Rallye Edition that was meant to nod to its off-road racing heritage with its special paint and badges. It also comes with shocks, tires, and power steering.

This Rally has had some nice modifications that don’t spoil its original look and design, even with a set of modern Yokohama rubber covering the wheels.

Of course, the original engine in the Scout II was as big as a 345 cu in V-8, but this more comfortable, modern-day International now features a much larger, but still vintage, 392 under the hood (first-generation Hemi V-8 ). It also retains classic parts like the old Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold.
