A 36-year-old Paterson man was killed after abandoning his truck to help the victim of another crash on Interstate 205 in Tracy, the California Highway Patrol said. The first crash involved a Toyota pickup truck that overturned Saturday around 3:45 a.m. eastbound on the highway west of Grant Line Road, the CHP said. The truck stopped on its side and blocked lane 2. One witness pulled over to the right shoulder near the back of the truck and called 911. At about this time, a 36-year-old Paterson man driving a Peterbilt truck and trailer pulled over to the right shoulder in front of the other witness’ vehicle. . He then walked to the overturned Toyota to check on the victim, according to the CHP. According to CHP, the Peterbilt driver realized he couldn’t help the Toyota driver and backed onto the right shoulder. At the same time, a 23-year-old Modesto woman driving a Kia was traveling in lane 3 and approached the scene of the accident. The man was struck by her car as he was returning to his Peterbilt truck, the CHP said. CHP said the driver of the Kia was paying attention to vehicles parked on the shoulder but did not see the man walking on the road or the overturned Toyota. She sustained minor injuries.
