The price of the 2022 Genesis GV70 undercuts other luxury SUVs

The 2022 Genesis GV70 luxury SUV will start at $42,045, including destination, when it reaches dealers this summer, the automaker announced Tuesday.

The GV70 follows the flagship GV80 SUV for 2021 as part of an impressive line-up of value-packed luxury vehicles from Hyundai’s luxury brand. When equipped with all-wheel drive, the 2021 BMW X3, 2021 Audi Q5 and 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class are at least $2,300 more expensive, but the GV70 comes better equipped.

The fifth model in the Genesis lineup, the 2022 GV70 uses the same rear-wheel drive platform as the G70 compact sedan, but has a longer wheelbase and more headroom. It’s powered by a 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo-4 that produces 311 lb-ft of torque or a 375-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 that produces 391 lb-ft, which is the same as what’s offered in the GV80 SUV. The GV80 is quick off the line but handles like a large SUV. The sportier, more compact GV70 should feel quicker and lighter. An 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive come standard.

The GV70 shares many design traits of the GV80 and wears the same large grille in the shape of a crest or shield. The front shield grille extends over the skid panels and its grille extends to the lower center and side intakes. The lower grille on the back is reminiscent of the design on the front. It rides on 18-inch wheels.

The LED light signature appears as it does with the rest of the kit as well, divided into double horizontal lines that wrap around the front bumper. The lines extend below the beltline to the rear, where the taillights catch the light and wrap the rear over dual exhaust pipes. The GV70 featured a pronounced integrated rear roof spoiler and a peculiar triangle-shaped rear quarter window.

Genesis says the open interior is inspired by the aerodynamic sections of aircraft wings. From the photos, the dashboard appears flat, wide and uncluttered, with a large screen mounted at the top of the dash that looks too far back to be a touchscreen.

The 2.5T is offered in Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trims, and is well-equipped across the board. Faux leather cushions that heat the front seats, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, four USB ports, wireless smartphone charging, a 14.5-inch touchscreen with navigation and satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, automatic high beams and more. Most luxury packages bundle many safety features into packages ranging from $995 to $2,000.
