Updated NIO EC6 launches for less than $50K – deliveries underway
Days after promising the official launch of its updated EC6 SUV, NIO has shared all the relevant details, including new design features inside and out, as well as how much it will cost consumers. Following today’s launch event in China, the electric vehicle is already being offered to customers in an unprecedented launch strategy.
We won’t spend too much time on the history of the NIO EC6, as we’ve recapped its path up to its launch just a few days ago today, when NIO confirmed that the public will be getting all the delicious specs and prices today.
NIO has kept its word in more ways than one. Not only by launching the updated EC6, but by immediately starting deliveries in a unique way. Priced at under $50,000 and even less if you rent the battery, the EC6 arrives with LiDAR, an active wing, and a “queen seat.”

NIO brings an impressive update to its EC6 SUV
NIO shared the images above and below via its Weibo page following its official launch of EC6 in China earlier today. Pricing for the facelifted SUV starts at CNY 358,000 (US$49,200) for the model with the standard 75 kWh battery pack and CNY 416,000 (US$57,200) for the Long Range (100 kWh) battery pack.
If Chinese consumers want to save more money, they can choose NIO’s battery leasing option, where they pay a lower amount up front and rent their SUV batteries every month. This version of the EC6 costs CNY 218,000 (US$39,600) up front and either CNY 980 (US$135) and CNY 1,680 (US$231) per month for the 75 kWh or 100 kWh battery pack, respectively. According to NIO’s Weibo:
The new EC6 smart electric SUV is now on the market with a starting price of 358,000 yuan. The coupe’s ready-to-go position, transparent cabin design, absolute driving control and pioneering intelligent experience bring a car experience that exceeds expectations. It comes standard with the second-generation Copilot and Quinn Convenience Package. The new EC6 has more features. One picture will help you understand.
As we reported earlier this week, the EC6 is the latest NIO model to join its NT 2.0 platform and now features the same LiDAR design, camera, front and rear lights as its all-electric siblings. Its operating system and ADAA are powered by an NVIDIA Orin chip, delivering 1016 TOPS and its updated exterior offers a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd.
Its maximum range with the 100 kWh pack is 615 km (382 miles) CLTC and features interior technology such as a Panocinema screen complete with viewing glasses, a reclining ‘queen seat’ up front, and a 1.77 square meter panoramic glass roof (see images below).
NIO has yet to say when Europe might see the updated EC6 make its way, but we suspect those plans are in the works. Local drivers in China are taking priority as deliveries begin today, but NIO certainly has plans to get this SUV to as many people as possible, so expect to see it overseas next year.
